Hello Jazz Academy (“we” or “us”) has established this privacy policy (this “Policy”) as set out below concerning the handling of users’ information in Hello Jazz, an app for iPhone (the “App”).
1. The App Does Not Send Your Information to Us
The App does not send your information to our servers. The App has no account registration, no syncing over a network, and no tools for aggregation or analytics. For advertising, see Section 8. We receive your information through the App only when you submit it through the feedback form (see Section 5). However, if you have turned on the iPhone setting Share With App Developers (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), usage statistics and crash logs in a form that does not identify you may reach us through Apple’s system. We use them only to fix problems in the App and to improve it. You can stop this sharing at any time with the same setting.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
So that you can continue your learning, the App stores the following information only on your device. This information is not sent outside your device, and we cannot see it. It consists of what you enter or select and what is recorded on your device as you use the App. The App uses it only to address you on screen (by your nickname), to show your learning progress, mastery, level and the like, for in-app features such as Lives and SP, for the App’s settings, and to match feedback to the device it came from (App ID).
- What you enter or select in the initial setup (nickname, adult or child, jazz experience, instrument, and daily goal)
- Learning records (your progress in each lesson and the dates and times of study and completion; for each question, your answers, whether they were correct, the number of attempts, the time taken to answer, and the date and time; and your mastery)
- Your Lives, Swing Points (SP), tickets, level, streak, and quest completion status
- App settings (sound effects, vibration, listening questions, streak display, piano sound, learning level, and the like)
- App ID (an eight-character code of letters and digits that the App creates on your device and shows under 「ヘルプと情報」; it contains no name or other personal details, and reaches us only if you write it in the feedback form)
3. Use of Device Features
The App uses the following features, for which Apple requires developers to declare their reasons for use, only for the purposes stated below. The same information is stated in the privacy manifest included in the App.
- Storage of app settings (UserDefaults): to save and read the App’s settings and your answers in the initial setup (reason code CA92.1)
- Time elapsed since the device started (systemUptime): to align the times at which you tap the keys or a rhythm with the accompaniment and the motion on the screen (reason code 35F9.1). The elapsed time is used only for calculations on your device and is never sent outside it.
The App does not request access to your microphone, camera, location, contacts, or photos. The App also does not ask for permission to track you (App Tracking Transparency) and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).
4. Payments for VIP (Subscription)
Payments for VIP in the App (an auto-renewable subscription on the App Store) are made through Apple’s App Store. We do not receive your Apple Account, credit card, or other payment information. The App reads whether you are subscribed to VIP (your plan, the next renewal date, and whether you are in a free trial) from your purchase records on Apple’s App Store. So that it also works offline, the App stores only the last status it read on your device and does not send it outside your device.
5. Feedback and Inquiries
The App’s Send Feedback item (「フィードバックを送る」) only opens our feedback form, and the App never sends anything automatically. The feedback form is a Google Form provided by Google LLC; what you submit is stored on Google’s services and is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy), and the email address and App ID fields are optional. If you send us feedback or an inquiry, we use its content and your reply address only to reply to you and to improve the App. If we wish to use them for any other purpose, we will obtain your consent in advance. Information entered in the contact form on our website is handled in accordance with our privacy policy (in Japanese).
6. Use by Children
The App has a Kids Mode (「キッズモード」), which shows music terms with their readings in hiragana. No advertisements are shown in Kids Mode (see Section 8). When a child sends feedback or purchases VIP, we ask that a parent or guardian check it.
7. Provision to Third Parties
The only information we receive through the App is what you submit through the feedback form (see Section 5). We will not provide information we receive through feedback or inquiries to any third party without your prior consent, except in cases based on laws and regulations. However, what you submit through the feedback form is stored on the services of Google LLC, which provides the form (see Section 5). We use the form having confirmed that Google, under Google’s Privacy Policy, protects your information to the same degree as this Policy. The App uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) of Google LLC to show advertisements (see Section 8). Other than that, the App does not include any third-party analytics tools or SDKs that handle your information. If we decide to use any of them, we will first revise this Policy to state the information to be handled and the recipients, and we will confirm that the recipients protect your information to the same degree as this Policy.
8. Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to show a full-screen advertisement when you finish a lesson. To display advertisements, Google may collect information about your device through the App, such as your IP address (used to estimate your approximate location), device and app identifiers, device type and OS version, the advertisements displayed and your interactions with them, and app performance and crash logs. This information is handled in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. We use Google’s service after confirming that Google protects your information to the same or equal degree as this Policy.
The App does not ask for permission to track you and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). The advertisements shown are not based on your activity in other companies’ apps or websites.
No advertisements are shown in Kids Mode or to VIP members.
If you see an inappropriate advertisement, please let us know through the feedback form listed in “10. Contact.”
9. Retention and Deletion of Information
All information stored on your device is erased when you delete the App from your device. To delete the App, touch and hold the App’s icon on the Home Screen and choose Remove App and then Delete App, or go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If you have turned on backups of your device (such as iCloud Backup), the information may be included in those backups. Backups are under the control of Apple and you, and we cannot see them.
We keep information we receive through feedback or inquiries only for as long as necessary to respond to it. If you request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, or suspension of use of your personal information, we will respond promptly after verifying your identity. Because we do not obtain your information automatically through the App, we do not ask for your consent to obtain it (for the information Google collects to show advertisements, see Section 8). To request that we stop using (that is, to withdraw your consent for) or delete information you sent us through feedback or an inquiry, please contact us as shown in “10. Contact.”

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may revise this Policy in response to changes in laws and regulations or changes to the App’s features. If a change to the App’s features would change the information the App handles, we will revise this Policy before making that change. The revised Policy takes effect when it is posted on this website.
